Kaylee Elizabeth Hill
was born on Sunday
April 13th 2014
It was totally unexpexted
This whole pregnancy has been a walk in the park (at least compared to my last).
I have been energized, fit, and happy. I was pretty sure that this baby was not coming until right around the due date (May 15th) so, I had nothing ready... nothing
no clothes, no bed, no blankets-- nothing
Anyway, Saturday was the day of the big move. I was planning on helping out and being a good sport, but I woke up feeling like I had been thrown out of a moving vehicle. I could barely move, let a lone get out of bed and help. It did not feel like labor, but something inside of me told me that Baby was on her way.
I really did not want the baby to come yet, not because I was totally unprepared, but, because Branden and I had made a bet on Friday: He bet me that contractions would start in the next 48 hours. I dont like to lose.
and so I was going to put off going to the hospital for as long as possible.
Throughout the day, I kept feeling worse and worse. My stomach was extremely sensitive and I had a fever. that, mixed with the fact that it felt like my insides were about to fall out, made me decide to finally go in to the hospital at 9:00 pm. Branden was pleased, but I was still sure that he was not going to win the bet.
The nurses did all of the normal things they do to check for labor, and I was not in labor :)
I won. :)
but then...
The nurse came back in with a some testing supplies. She wanted to just double check something.
She thought that I might have an infection called something something choreo.
It meant that when my water broke, bad bacteria spread up the stream into my amniotic fluid, endangering both me and Baby
but the test was not going to come back positive, how could it. I was not having a baby!
I REALLY WANTED TO WIN THIS BET!
About a half hour later the nurse came back in-- with a doctor :( that's almost always a bad sign
he explained a bunch of stuff that I dont remember and then said, "its time to have a baby".
they were going to induce labor.
I lost. :(
just by a few hours too. what were the chances? I was 37 weeks to the day!
that's when it hit me that I had nothing ready...hmmm...
way to go me!
So, 6 hours of labor and 5 minuets of easy pushing later (totally different experience from my first)
I met my beautiful baby girl
We had come up with the name just a few moments before
More than anything I just wanted her name to mean something.
Kaylee means pure, keeper of the keys
Elizabeth means God is my Oath
plus we just really liked "Kaylee"
and now her grandpa can call them "Issy and Lizzy" :)
She was 7lbs even and 18 inches long
and such a cutie!
I healed REALLY fast
now, not even a week after the birth I feel pretty much normal. I have not taken a single pain med and am completely mobile.
(Again, totally different from my first.)
All of this seemed too good to be true.
I could not believe how smooth everything was going.
Yesterday I even said to Branden, "everything just went so well... something bad is bound to happen. It cannot possibly be this good."
well, I was right.
this morning at 12:30 am we noticed that Kaylee was REALLY cold to the touch. We took her temperature after doing skin-to-skin for 30 minuets and were astonished to see 34 degrees Celsius!!
she is supposed to be at least 36.6
So we called the on-call Doctor for Alpine Pediatrics (let me just put a plug in here for them: they are fantastic!)
He could not believe that she was 34 degrees, so he had us check the thermometer to make sure that it was not the problem. It was working just fine.
With that he told us to go immediately to the ER, especially since she had lost almost a pound since birth, and I was Group B +
and I had suspected Choreo.
Branden took Kaylee and I stayed home with Isabelle, who was going crazy with energy and would not end up falling asleep until 4:00 in the morning.
At the Hospital, the doctors put Kaylee on a warmer. She got as low as 33.7 before her temperature started to come back up. The warmer was even on %100! This meant that her body could not maintain any of its own heat! Scary! At this point I was really grateful that we brought her in.

Tons of tests were done including a bunch of blood work and the dreaded spinal fluid tap :/
They found her Bilirubin to be a 21!!
For those of you who dont know, that is REALLY high especially for a baby that was 3 weeks early "with difficulties". They also suspected infection.
So now my little cutie is hooked up to all sorts of machines:
She is stable and finally warm. She is also eating really well and is no longer so floppy. She looks much better already!
We are waiting on some tests, so she will be there at least until tomorrow afternoon but it could be much much longer depending on the infection and Bilirubin levels
Branden will be staying with her while she is there, at least for now, and I am staying in the RV with Isabelle. To keep myself from feeling down about all of this, I have just been counting every blessing that I can. So here are a few:
The Weather: oh man is it nice out!!
The RV: it's our temporary living arrangement. Its small but actually really comfortable.
Utah Lake: the RV park is right by the lake and river and I LOVE it down here, so many memories (makes me miss my dad though)
Isabelle: she is such a fun baby, and sleeps well most of the time. Her and I have been having a blast hanging out here.
My Family
My Friends
(both have been extremely supportive)
Our new car: finally!
Branden: Best man Ever!!
My ward's Relief Society: they have been bringing meals and it is seriously such a blessing!! I could never thank them enough.
God: He has given me everything that I have to be grateful for. My faith in him, more than anything else, is helping me to keep a smile on my face. I dont know how this is all going to turn out. I just hope for the best and know that sometimes there are other plans at work.
I love Kaylee very much! it's funny how much you can miss and love a person you have only known for 4 days. I am very grateful for all of the kindness, and support everyone has been. It means the world to me to know that we are not alone in this or any of our trials, so,
Thank you!
