Sentimentality

For the past 9 months we have been "in-between" housing. All of our belongings have been in a storage shed for that time. During that time, Mother Nature conspired with the storage unit roof and a mini flood made its way through our belongings, leaving destruction in its wake.
Luckily, none of our furniture was ruined, our clothes were fine, dishes were safe, all of the random junk we don't care about was as good as new. The one group of boxes that took the brunt of the attack were the boxes containing our memories...
Of course
It was quite painful going trough the wet, moldy boxes trying to designate which precious items were salvageable and which had succumbed to the wrath of the water and mold. There was a lot of frustrated yelling and tears, but I eventually got through it. This is the damage:
a Book of Mormon with my testimony when I was 12
 Moldy.

A box full of old letters
Gone.

Three Scrapbooks, one made by my mom and two made by me
 Totally Destroyed.

More old letters, my Graduation Chords, Cap, all my HS dance pictures, and Seminary diploma

There were a lot of other things that were sad to say good bye to, But a few good things survived too... like letters from Bradens ex she sent while he was on his mission... seriously, why could they not have been the things to perish. Haha
Anyway, I am grateful for what I still have, and lets just say I will be investing in digital memories from now on. :)

  2. It makes me want to cry. But also, I am so happy that you have so many precious memories to try to remember. I loved that ABC memory book you made. I hope some of it survived. If you want you can scan your damaged items on my scanner to try and preserve some of their essence.

  3. yep, The ABC book had about 3 pages that you could make out the pictures, and the other scrapbooks were about the same. It's okay though, even though they are special they are still just "things".
